Quite the rough start. But we have taken some decisive steps this week in being able to put more cash into savings for when the baby arrives.
We were contacted by our mortgage company last week by email with a refinance opportunity. Honestly I thought it was spam or some kind of joke. What mortgage company in their right minds would contact the homeowner for a refinance??? Don't they lose money that way?
Well, it seems that this is a way for the private mortgage companies to help retain business as other companies offer lower rates on already existing mortgages.
According to our mortgage broker, under the Obama Mortgage Assistance Program we were eligible because we have paid our mortgage on time for at least a full year. We will be dropping our rate by over 1 full percentage! That's a savings of 250 dollars a month. I know this seems like a drop in the bucket, but it will take baby steps to get started in achieving this lofty goal.
